My name is Amanda Hausmann, and I am a Registered Art Therapist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Tallahassee, Florida. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Studio Art in 2016 and my Master of Science in Art Therapy in 2018, both from Florida State University. I obtained a certification in Perinatal Mental Health in 2024.
I have worked in various therapy settings, including outpatient and intensive outpatient programs, hospitals and residential facilities providing art therapy to children, adolescents, pregnant and postpartum individuals, and adults with mental health and substance use concerns.
I apply both art therapy and counseling techniques in my work to help individuals address a range of goals, including body image and self-esteem, processing trauma, and coping with anxiety and depression. I believe that the creative process can promote expression of emotions that may sometimes be difficult to describe in words. My goal is that through art therapy, individuals will be able to gain an in-depth understanding of themselves and how they can overcome the challenges they face while feeling supported in a safe, accepting space.
Art therapy involves application of the creative process by a trained art therapist to help individuals express and gain insight into personal thoughts, emotions, and challenges. I often describe art therapy as a unique form of communication, that can help people understand and convey their emotions in a way that may be much more difficult to communicate through words alone. As a registered art therapist, I have completed training in the use of art materials for connecting to, expressing, and processing emotions in a safe, supportive environment.
No art experience is needed! Sometimes it can be intimidating to think of drawing or painting when you may not have created art since childhood, but one of the core goals of art therapy is to remove judgment from the art process to encourage freedom in creative expression. It does not matter what the art looks like - it matters what it means to you. My goal is to create a judgment-free therapeutic space where you can feel supported in creating what you need. Art therapy is suitable for all ages.
Yes! A significant part of my art therapy practice involves verbal processing. Whether it is a guided verbal processing of your artwork, or even spending a session unpacking a recent conflict, work or school stressor, our sessions are based on what you need while you are here.
Absolutely! Online art therapy involves essentially the same process as in-person art therapy, except instead of traveling to an office, you can use the art materials you have at home. Whether that looks like a designated art therapy desk with paint, clay, fabric, etc. in your home, or a sketchbook and some colored pencils on your work break, we will work with what you have when we meet! Virtual art therapy reduces the amount of time you would need to spend traveling to and from an office for a session, making it more convenient to fit into your schedule. All sessions are conducted via HIPAA compliant Zoom.
I am Perinatal Mental Health Certified through Postpartum Support International, and apply both art therapy and counseling techniques with pregnant and postpartum people as well as their partners. So many people experience perinatal mental health concerns, and finding a trained perinatal therapist can be essential during the life changes experienced during pregnancy, birth, and becoming a parent. Support can also be incredibly helpful when facing challenges with infertility and pregnancy or birth-related trauma. My goal is to provide a space where you feel comfortable to explore and process all of the emotions and challenges of this unique time. Not only are babies welcome to join with you, but I encourage you to attend with your baby if it feels appropriate for you!

At this time, I do not accept insurance. All therapy sessions are conducted virtually. Sessions are scheduled weekly or every other week based on your individual needs. My current rate is $110 per hour, or $90 per hour for students. Before your first appointment you will receive a good faith estimate explaining the cost of services.
